How long does a padel racket last and when to replace it

Published on 6 November 2026 · by Luca Bicchieri, PadelMetrix

A padel racket lasts on average from 6 months to 3 years, depending mostly on how much you play. Before it breaks, it loses its qualities: the inner rubber compresses, the ball comes off the face less and your arm takes more vibration. Here is how to tell when it is time to replace it.

How long it lasts, by how much you play

How often you playRough lifespan
Once a week or less2–3 years
2–3 times a week12–18 months
Competitive or almost daily6–12 months

These are guidelines, not expiry dates (PadelSpeed). Another common estimate is about 100 sessions for someone playing 2–3 times a week (padel.fyi). Hard hitters, especially with soft-core rackets, wear them out sooner.

Signs it is time for a new one

A tip: if you can, compare your racket with a new one of the same model. The difference in bounce is obvious straight away (padel.fyi).

Frequently asked questions

How long does a padel racket last?

From 6 months to 3 years: about 2–3 years playing once a week, 12–18 months playing 2–3 times a week, 6–12 months for those who play almost every day.

How do I know if my racket needs replacing?

The ball comes off the face less and feels dull, there are soft spots on the face, cracks, more vibration or new arm pain.

Does heat damage a racket?

Yes: high temperatures, such as in a car in summer, speed up the breakdown of the inner rubber.
