Padel racket for beginners
The right racket for a beginner is round or teardrop, weighs 350–365 g, has a low or medium balance and a soft fiberglass or light carbon face; it usually costs €70–150. Pro rackets, stiff and head-heavy, make learning harder.

The four criteria
- Round or teardrop shape. The sweet spot is central and larger.
- Weight 350–365 g. Stable enough, without tiring the arm.
- Low or medium balance. Easier to handle on volleys and in defence.
- Fiberglass or soft carbon. A more comfortable feel and easy ball output.
On price: to start out you don't need to spend more than €100–150. See also the cheap rackets and the differences between shapes.
Frequently asked questions
What shape should a beginner padel racket be?
Round or teardrop is best: the sweet spot is more central and the racket forgives off-centre hits more.
How much should your first padel racket weigh?
For an adult usually between 350 and 365 grams; players with less strength or arm problems can go down towards 340.
Is fiberglass or carbon better for starting out?
Fiberglass is softer and cheaper and helps the ball come off the face; carbon is stiffer and more precise, suited to players whose technique is more solid.
